I figured I’d make another pass and make some final touches to this blog to officially close the self-portrait project. I’m not sure what future projects I might embark upon, but for now I’m going to leave the self-portrait project intact and online here at 50Prime365.com. The one final addition I’ve now added is a full image thumbnail view of the entire project. I think it’s actually pretty cool looking just by itself without the links to the full size view.

Well this past January 17th marked what would have been the one year point for this project. Looking back now it seems like a goal that should have been easy to attain. I’ll admit it, when I abandoned things, taking that self-portrait everyday had become a huge pain in the ass. Of course now that the full year has come and gone, I wish I’d stuck with it, even with the loss of a block of pictures from my stolen camera back in November. I don’t do much with this site now, as you can see. I wanted to switch it to a site where other people submit self-portraits, but that was a flop. I maintain several other blogs (or try to) and so this one just slipped off into the dismal abyss of failed blog projects, like the millions of others across the internet. Everyone always has great aspirations to write the best and most popular blog when they first start out but they soon realize the prospect of keeping something up-to-date on a daily or even weekly basis is just difficult to do if you are balancing full-time work etc. After blogging now for well over a year and a half, I have a renewed respect for bloggers who continue to keep the content coming and keep their audience engaged.

Anyway, one year ago today I was living in a little dingy apartment, not too far from my current house. The shot from January 29, 2005 was called “Absolute Saturday” and was of me having a little vodka tonic while getting ready to hit the clubs with my roommate on that Saturday night. The funny (or maybe tragic) thing is that I went out to the same club this past Friday night… and I wore that same shirt. I think I need to go shopping.

It’s cool to look back at where we’ve been. What a crazy year.

One of the other ideas I have for this site is to have other people submit their own self-portraits for posting. I’d like to continue to focus on the self-portrait theme but honestly, 279 pictures of myself is enough already!

So if you’re feeling inspired by all my wonderful images and you have a self-portrait of your own that you’d like to submit, please email it to joe AT 50prime365.com. Consider it your little project for today. Drag out your camera and get creative! Depending on how many submissions I actually get (if any), I’ll continue to post one each day.

I may also just branch off and start taking portraits of other people as well to post and fill in the gaps.
