Technical Difficulties

Please pardon the recent technical difficulties with my site. My hosting company decided to move servers on me without giving me notice and so the DNS was pointing to the old server for several days. So, while I was posting my daily images, it was actually being uploaded to an old server. When the changes to the DNS finally went through, the new server was missing the last 7 days of data.

This is a prime example of the difference in blogging software between Moveable Type and WordPress. Wordpress generates pages on the fly, dynamically from the MySQL database and so each page is accessing the latest information from the database. Movable Type on the other hand, rebuilds the entire site each time the author makes a new entry. So the complete site is static on the server and does not access the database each time a visitor requests a page. This is why I’m a fan of WordPress instead. The Movable Type platform, while probably efficient, is an installed application and requires a specific server configuration. WordPress is much easier to install, use, maintain and move.

Anyway, I digress… my images will be reposted and I’ll be caught up here in a day or so. Forgive the sudden barrage of the last 7 days of images that you are about to receive.

Thanks for tuning in! ;)

Actually since Movable Type 3 you have the option to switch from static to dynamic publishing. So you can configure MT to generate pages each time an entry is accessed – if you want to do that.
