I switched back to my Canon D30 today from the compact Canon SD200. The difference in image quality is definitely noticeable. The Pro SLR D30 has a much greater range of controls such as a higher ISO (up to 1600 as opposed to only 400 on the SD200) and manual aperture and shutter settings. A lot of my portraits have been done in low light, usually because it’s toward the end of the night when I decide to work on my daily image and the D30 clearly handles these low light situations much better. The image is much less pixelated and the optics of the lens produce much sharper and clearer detail, such as the wrinkles around my eyes.. lol. It’s good to get back to the higher end pro camera once in awhile. Carrying around the compact SD200 can make you a lazy photographer.
